Damascus (The Uttam Hindu) – An explosion rocked a mosque during Friday prayers in the Wadi al-Dahab area of the Syrian city of Homs. According to the state news agency SANA, the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque was the target, killing at least eight people and injuring 18.

Videos and photos of the incident showed blood stains on prayer mats, broken glass, and debris scattered inside. Following the blast, security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Initial statements by local officials gave a low death toll, but reports later showed the number of casualties rising. Initial assessments suggested the blast was caused by either a suicide attack or pre-planted explosives, although official confirmation will only be made after an investigation.

The area is believed to be inhabited by Alawites. International agencies said the identity of the attack was not immediately known, and no group has claimed responsibility.
