Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu): The Pakistani army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations in the Naugam sector (Kupwara) of northern Kashmir on Saturday evening. The incident occurred just a day after the India-Saudi Arabia defense agreement. The Indian Army retaliated strongly, inflicting heavy damage on an enemy observation post.

According to sources, around 5:30 pm, Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian positions in the Tutmar Gali area of the Nowgam sector. Initially, the Indian Army exercised restraint but when the shelling intensified, they retaliated. Heavy firing continued for approximately 40 minutes. Pakistani troops then opened fire again at 9:30 pm prompting a strong response from Indian troops.

It is reported that a Pakistani post suffered serious damage during the exchange of fire. This area across the LoC is known as the Lipa Valley. Earlier, a gunfight between terrorists and security forces had been ongoing in the Seojdhar forest of Udhampur district since late Friday evening. During this encounter, Army Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand (resident of Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh) was martyred.
