Curfew Lifted in Kathmandu, Indian Envoy Meets Nepal’s New PM

Kathmandu (The Uttam Hindu): Big news has come from Nepal. Curfew and prohibitory orders have been lifted from the capital Kathmandu. This restriction was imposed by the army which was lifted from 5 am today. However, army deployment is likely to remain for a few days in view of security.

This decision was taken after the formation of the interim government and the situation becoming normal. Also, President Ramchandra Paudel has dissolved the House of Representatives on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and announced to hold general elections before March 5, 2026.

Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava was the first foreign diplomat to meet Sushila Karki after she was sworn in as interim Prime Minister. He conveyed congratulations and best wishes on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and assured all possible cooperation.

During this, Karki said that Nepal expects a lot of help from India to overcome this crisis. Ambassador Shrivastava assured that India will cooperate at every level from reconstruction of Nepal to general elections and will also play a partnership in development work.
