Deadly Midnight Siege: Peshawar Police Centre Hit, 7 Killed, Attackers Livestream Chaos
Peshawar (The Uttam Hindu): In a brazen late-night assault, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants carried out a major attack on a police training centre in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing 7 police personnel and injuring 13 others. Security forces engaged the attackers for nearly 6 hours, ultimately killing all 5 militants, including a suicide bomber.
The attack comes amid reports of a 46% surge in terrorist incidents in Pakistan.
According to sources, the militants rammed an explosives-laden truck into the main gate of the police training centre around 9 PM on Friday. The massive explosion demolished a large portion of the centre’s wall, killing one officer instantly. Following the breach, 7–8 armed militants stormed inside, opening indiscriminate fire and using grenades and other lethal weapons.
Upon receiving the alert, Pakistani army and police commandos arrived at the scene and surrounded the centre. A fierce 6-hour gunbattle ensued, during which over 200 trainees and officers were evacuated safely, preventing a far greater tragedy. At the end of the operation, all attackers were neutralized, and authorities recovered suicide vests, explosives, and heavy ammunition from the site.
Initially, TTP claimed responsibility, but later issued a denial. Some social media accounts linked a new group, Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan (IMP), to the attack. Shockingly, the attackers were reportedly wearing body cameras and livestreaming the assault.
