The idea has sparked debate on both political and legal grounds, as such a move would be highly unusual in US history.
According to reports, the 24 karat gold coin may show Trump leaning against the Resolute Desk with his fist raised. If approved, it would be a rare instance of a living figure appearing on a US coin. The only comparable example dates back to 1926 when President Calvin Coolidge appeared on a commemorative coin alongside George Washington.
The US Commission of Fine Arts has reportedly given initial approval to the design, with final production pending further clearances. Officials say the commemorative coins aim to reflect the nation’s heritage and history, though experts note that existing laws and traditions could make the proposal subject to continued debate.
