200% Tariff Threat! Trump Issues Explosive Warning — ‘If I Play My Cards, China Will Be Ruined’
Washington DC (The Uttam Hindu): Former US President Donald Trump once again issued a stern warning to China, threatening to impose up to 200% tariffs if Beijing fails to supply enough magnets to the United States.
Speaking at the Oval Office during a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Trump said:
"China has some cards, and we have some cards too. But I don’t want to play those cards. If I do, China will be ruined. I won’t play them… unless I have to."
Trump emphasized that he still seeks better relations with Beijing but admitted that trade tensions remain unresolved. He revealed that he recently spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping and is considering a visit to Beijing this year or soon after, following an official invitation from Xi.
Earlier, Trump had extended the US-China tariff deadline by 90 days, signing an executive order to push it until November 9. Previously, in August, Trump had threatened tariffs of up to 245%, prompting China to retaliate with duties as high as 125%. Although a temporary trade deal was reached in Geneva on May 11, Trump’s latest comments have reignited global market concerns.
The US-China trade war, ongoing for years, remains a pivotal issue for global economic stability. Analysts say Trump’s hardline stance could escalate tensions again despite earlier diplomatic overtures.
