Donald Trump Declares Ukraine Can ‘Fight and Win’ Against Russia With NATO and EU Support
Washington(The Uttam Hindu): In a surprising shift on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Ukraine is now in a position to “fight and win” against Russia with the support of the European Union and NATO.
In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump wrote that after analyzing the military and economic situation of both nations, he believes Ukraine can restore itself to its “original form.” He emphasized that with time, patience, and financial backing from Europe—especially NATO—Kyiv could reclaim its lost territories.
“Russia is fighting without purpose. This conflict makes them look like a ‘paper tiger.’ Ukraine has shown great courage, and I believe it can regain its full strength, perhaps even beyond,” Trump stated.
The former U.S. President also argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin is under severe economic pressure, making it the right time for Ukraine to act. However, Trump distanced the United States from direct involvement, saying, “We will continue supplying NATO with weapons so that NATO can do whatever it wants. Best wishes to everyone.”
Earlier, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Trump supported shooting down Russian aircraft if they entered NATO airspace. He praised Ukraine’s resilience and noted that America holds “great respect” for Kyiv’s fight.
In his UNGA speech, Trump also criticized European and NATO countries for continuing to buy Russian energy, effectively “funding their own war.” He reiterated that the U.S. would only impose additional sanctions on Russia if Europe agreed to take similar steps.
“If Russia refuses to make peace, the United States is fully prepared to impose heavy tariffs that could end the conflict. But for these measures to be effective, European nations must join us,” Trump warned.
This new position marks a significant departure from Trump’s earlier cautious tone on the Ukraine war, sparking debate over how it could influence U.S. and NATO policy in the coming months.
