Washigton (The Uttam Hindu): Despite repeatedly asserting that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for allegedly preventing multiple wars, former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims appear to have had no impact on the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The committee has issued a clear statement affirming that it makes decisions with full autonomy and independence, unaffected by any external pressure or public statements.

Since returning to power in January this year, Trump has made several public remarks claiming that he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He often compares himself to former President Barack Obama, arguing that Obama received the prize "too early." Trump claims he helped prevent 6 to 7 potential wars during his term and insists he has the ability to end both the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Reacting to Trump’s repeated public comments, the Nobel Committee clarified its stance. In an interview with news agency AFP, committee secretary Kristian Berg Harpviken stated, “It’s true that there's a lot of media attention around certain candidates. But it is equally true that such attention has no influence on our decisions.”

He further added, “We make decisions strictly according to our established standards. No external factors or pressures play a role in the selection process.” The committee’s firm response makes it clear that public self-nomination or political rhetoric has no bearing on its decision-making.
