Washington (Uttam Hindu News): Donald Trump has further intensified his 'tariff' campaign and has now targeted the European Union (EU) and Mexico as well. Trump has announced a hefty tariff of 30 percent on both, which will come into effect from August 1.

This information was given by Donald Trump himself through a post on his social media platform 'Truth Social'. In his 'tariff letter', Trump has accused Mexico of promoting drug smuggling into the US, while blaming the European Union for creating imbalance in trade.

The move comes after Trump announced tariffs on six other countries on Wednesday—Libya, Algeria, Iraq, Moldova, the Philippines and Brunei. So far, Trump has announced tariffs against more than 20 countries, including major trading partners like Japan and South Korea.

Trump has set different rates for different countries. Brazil has been hit with the highest tariff of 50%, while Myanmar and Laos will be hit with a 40% rate. Other major countries include Thailand (36%), Bangladesh (35%), Indonesia (32%), South Africa (30%) and Japan (25%). The US has also clarified that the existing basic duty of 10% will remain in place as before.

Amidst this global tariff campaign, the situation regarding India is still not clear. The US has not sent any tariff letter to India at the moment, due to which a kind of suspense remains. Experts believe that talks are going on between the two countries regarding a trade agreement, due to which India may have been excluded from this list.
