'Fire' rains down in Gaza, 20,000 Palestinians flee overnight fearing ground attack, 28 killed
Doha (The Uttam Hindu): On one hand, while the leaders of 50 Muslim countries are meeting in Qatar's capital Doha to formulate a strategy against Israel on the other hand, Israeli attacks have created chaos in the Gaza Strip. Last night, around 20,000 terrified Palestinians packed their bedding and essentials and fled from Gaza amidst Israel's warning of a ground attack. So far, 28 people have been reported dead in the attacks that have been going on since this morning.
Israel has increased the number of its soldiers on the Gaza border and has expressed the possibility of a ground attack at any time. The fear of attacks is such that people are rushing to get out safely on foot by car or by whatever means possible. The crisis has deepened because there is no hope of any kind of ceasefire between Hamas and Israel in the near future.
In the meeting going on in Doha, Muslim countries are brainstorming on bringing a resolution against Israel and are trying to send a message of their unity to the world. But it does not seem to have any effect on Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has clearly said that he will eliminate every single terrorist active in Gaza. At the same time, the presence of US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio in Israel and his three-hour long meeting with Netanyahu has further increased the concern of Muslim countries.
A few days ago, Israel had warned more than 1 million Palestinians living in northern Gaza to move to the southern part. Lakhs of people have already migrated, but people are so scared that they do not consider any area safe. Meanwhile, Israel has also intensified attacks in areas like Tubas and Nablus in the West Bank, which are considered relatively peaceful, which has further increased the tension.
