Georgia (The Uttam Hindu) – A U.S. Army sergeant was arrested after allegedly opening fire at his workplace inside Fort Stewart military base, injuring five fellow soldiers. According to local media reports, the accused was identified as 28-year-old Sergeant Quornellius Cementrio Redford, who was subdued by nearby troops just moments after the incident.

According to CNN, Brigadier General John Lubas, the commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division, confirmed that Redford used a personal handgun during the attack. Fortunately, all five injured soldiers are currently in stable condition.

In a press conference, General Lubas stated,

“Soldiers in the area witnessed the shooting and immediately confronted and subdued the gunman without hesitation. He was taken into custody by military police shortly after.”

Though the motive remains unclear, a law enforcement official revealed that Redford had a dispute with one of the victims the day before. Allegedly, he followed that soldier and shot him in the chest, before firing at four others. The exact reason behind the conflict has not been determined.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, this incident is one of at least 262 mass shootings reported in the U.S. in 2025 so far. It occurred just days after deadly shootings in a skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan and a bar in rural Montana.

General Lubas praised the swift intervention of fellow soldiers, saying their quick actions likely prevented a larger tragedy: “Their bravery helped minimize the harm and ensured the suspect was apprehended swiftly.” Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
