Tel Aviv (The Uttam Hindu): The Israel Defense Forces stated on Sunday that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed inside his leadership compound in central Tehran. According to the IDF, the operation marked the end of decades of hostility directed against Israel.

Khamenei’s death reportedly occurred during a major joint strike carried out by the United States and Israel, marking a significant turning point in Iran’s 46-year-old Shia-led system of governance. The aftermath triggered retaliatory tensions across large parts of the Middle East.

In an official statement, the Israeli military detailed the operation, stating that the Air Force carried out a targeted strike on the leadership compound in central Tehran based on precise intelligence inputs. At the time of the attack, Khamenei was reportedly present along with other senior officials.

The IDF described Khamenei as the central figure behind Iran’s strategic posture since 1989 and accused him of promoting policies hostile to Israel and Western nations. It also alleged that he played a direct role in internal repression within Iran and in supporting regional armed groups.

The statement further claimed that he was the architect of efforts aimed at confronting Israel and was associated with expanding military support across the region, including to Hezbollah.

Israeli forces said the strike was part of a broader campaign targeting key figures linked to what it described as an Iran-backed network across the region. According to the IDF, the operation represented a continuation of efforts to dismantle leadership structures associated with longstanding security threats.

The military also emphasized that the action reflects Israel’s commitment to counter any threat to its citizens, stating that any entity attempting to harm Israel would be targeted wherever necessary.

Earlier, the IDF announced that Israeli Air Force fighter jets had deployed more than 1,200 munitions across various locations in Iran over the previous 24 hours, targeting military assets including ballistic missile launchers and air defense systems as part of the ongoing campaign.
