New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : US President Donald Trump's aggressive policy regarding Greenland now appears to be taking legal shape. A significant bill has been introduced in the US Congress, calling for US annexation of the Arctic island of Greenland and its official status as a US state. This indicates that Washington has moved forward to implement its intentions regarding this strategic region.

This bill was introduced by US House of Representatives Randy Fine. In a statement shared on social media, Fine stated that he had tabled a resolution in the House seeking to annex Greenland under US control and grant it statehood. The bill authorizes President Donald Trump to take all necessary political and diplomatic action regarding Greenland.

What is the bill's argument?

The bill states that countries hostile to the United States are trying to strengthen their hold in the Arctic region. Therefore, gaining control of Greenland could curb the influence of powers like China and Russia. Congressman Randy Fine has described Greenland as vital to US national security, calling it a "strategic security asset."

The bill also warns that control of Greenland is essential to the security of key Arctic shipping routes, US defense interests, and maintaining global stability. According to the proposal, weak US policies over the years have weakened its strategic position in the Arctic Ocean, while China and Russia have steadily increased their presence there.

The bill also authorizes the United States to enter into formal negotiations with the Danish government regarding the future of Greenland. Experts believe that if this proposal moves forward, it could spark a major geopolitical controversy in international politics.
