India’s Strong Stand at UN: “Killing of Innocents in Ukraine Unacceptable, Only Dialogue and Diplomacy Can Bring Peace”
United Nations, New York(The Uttam Hindu): India has delivered a firm yet balanced message at the United Nations over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, reiterating that the death of innocent civilians is “completely unacceptable” and that war can never be a means to achieve a solution.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, said that the only sustainable path to ending the conflict lies in dialogue and diplomacy, no matter how difficult it may be. He urged all parties to fully commit themselves to peace through constructive engagement.
Acknowledging recent diplomatic efforts, India welcomed the summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, as well as the discussions in Washington DC between the US President, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and European leaders. These steps, India said, should be seen as positive signals toward reconciliation.
India also highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains in close contact with President Putin, President Zelenskyy, and several European leaders, underlining New Delhi’s active role in promoting a peaceful resolution. India expressed confidence that these engagements could pave the way for long-term peace in Ukraine.
Raising concerns over the wider global impact, India pointed out that the conflict has caused fuel prices to soar, disproportionately hurting nations in the Global South. It called for these countries’ voices to be heard and their challenges to be addressed with seriousness.
Reaffirming its humanitarian commitment, India reminded the UN that it has been providing aid to Ukraine and economic support to other vulnerable nations, ensuring a people-centric approach. “The early end of this conflict is in the collective interest of all,” India stressed, calling for urgent and genuine efforts to restore peace.
