Impact of tariff: Indian postal service to America suspended from August 25
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) – These days relations between India and America are not going well, that is why both the countries are taking some strict decisions. As per the new developments, the Indian Postal Department is going to suspend the booking of most postal items for America from August 25. At present, this decision will be implemented temporarily. On August 23, the Postal Department issued a press note and gave this information. This step has come after an order issued by the US government on July 30, 2025, under which tariff exemption on imported goods up to US $ 800 has been withdrawn.
However, gift items worth up to $100 (about Rs 8,700) will continue to be exempt from duty. Earlier, items worth up to $800 or about Rs 70,000 were duty free. A press release issued by the Postal Department said that from August 29, 'all international postal items going to the US, regardless of their value, will be subject to custom duty as per the country-specific International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariff framework.' However, it also said that the exemption will continue on gifts up to US $100.
