Famous Actress backs PM Modi amid rising India–US tensions, sends strong message to Trump
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Singer and actress Mary Millben has voiced strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying his calm and dignified handling of tensions between India and the United States has further strengthened his global reputation. She said that PM Modi’s measured and thoughtful diplomacy has made him even more respected on the world stage during challenging times.
Millben noted that while President Donald Trump and PM Modi share a personal understanding, true friendship also requires acknowledging mistakes. She said many Americans, including herself, do not agree with the recent harsh statements made by the Trump administration against India.
She said she has consistently urged President Trump and will continue to do so in the future to treat India as a friend and strategic partner. According to her, the relationship between the two nations should be based on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared democratic values.
Reflecting on her long association with the US presidency, Millben said that 2026 will mark 20 years of her connection with the American presidential office, which began in 2006 when she was appointed to serve at the White House under President George W. Bush. Since then, she has performed for five US presidents and their administrations.
She said she is grateful for the opportunity to serve as a cultural ambassador and to engage with global leaders, including China’s President Xi, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Millben added that she has openly admired PM Modi for years for his moral values, humility, compassion for the Indian people, and understanding of innovation.
She further praised PM Modi for his strategic restraint and diplomatic balance during ongoing economic frictions with the United States. According to her, even under pressure, his composed approach has elevated him to one of the most respected leaders in global geopolitics.
Millben said that when the US signaled tougher trade measures against India, New Delhi responded by strengthening ties with new global partners, including China, Russia, and Europe. She described the recent India–European Union trade agreement as historic, calling it a powerful statement on sovereignty, security, and democratic values in global trade.
Drawing from her years of experience working closely with the White House, Millben said that without genuine allies, the US cannot sustain its position as a leading global power. Addressing India directly, she reaffirmed that America should remain a true friend to India.
In a direct appeal to President Trump, Millben urged him to apologize to Prime Minister Modi, restore relations with India, and rebuild America’s credibility on the global stage. She emphasized the importance of valuing the 4.5 million Indian-Americans living in the US and strengthening democratic partnerships worldwide.
She concluded by saying that while India and the US have expanded cooperation in defense, technology, and people-to-people ties in recent years, differences over trade and policy still remain and must be addressed through dialogue and respect.
