Indian government urges citizens to leave Iran amidst escalating violence and protests

Tehran (The Uttam Hindu): In view of the ongoing violent protests and deteriorating situation in Iran, the Indian government on Wednesday issued a strict advisory for its citizens. The Ministry of External Affairs advised all Indian citizens present in Iran, whether students, pilgrims, businessmen, or tourists, to leave as soon as possible. The government clarified that citizens should plan their return home with immediate effect, prioritizing safety.

This new advisory follows a previous one issued on January 5th, which has been updated to take into account the evolving and sensitive situation in Iran. The government has advised Indians present there to exercise extreme caution. Citizens have been specifically urged to avoid any protests or crowded areas. Furthermore, all Indians have been instructed to remain in constant contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran and monitor local media for the latest developments.

 Meanwhile, the situation on the ground in Iran remains extremely tense. According to a report in the English newspaper "The Guardian," approximately 300 bodies will be buried on Wednesday evening. These bodies are said to include both protesters and security personnel. The ceremony is expected to be held on the Tehran University campus amid tight security.

There are varying claims regarding the death toll from the violence. According to the American organization Human Rights Activists News Agency, more than 2,550 people have lost their lives so far, including 2,403 protesters and 147 government-affiliated individuals. Meanwhile, Iran International, a website that provides news about Iran, has made an even more alarming claim. They say at least 12,000 people have died across the country, most of whom were killed by gunfire.
