New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Iran is currently facing internal unrest and violence. Amid this situation, Iran has strongly reacted to statements made by former US President Donald Trump and has approached the United Nations with serious complaints. Iran has written letters to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and UN Security Council President Abukar Dahir Osman, accusing the United States of provoking violence inside the country.

In its letter, Iran alleged that the US is openly encouraging unrest and issuing threats of the use of force. Tehran urged the United Nations and the Security Council to condemn what it called inflammatory statements made by US leadership. Iran specifically referred to a social media post by Donald Trump in which he said, “Iranian patriots, keep protesting. Take control of your institutions. Help is coming.” Iran described these remarks as direct interference in its internal affairs.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he had cancelled all meetings with Iranian officials. Speaking at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump said the decision was taken due to violence against protesters in Iran. He stated that talks would remain suspended until what he called the “senseless killings” of protesters come to an end.

This statement came a day after Trump announced that the United States would impose a 25 percent tariff on all commercial dealings with any country that continues trade with Iran. He said the move was aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran.

Trump also appealed to those he referred to as “Iranian patriots” to continue protests and document those responsible for violence. He said reports on deaths in Iran vary, but stressed that even a single death is unacceptable and that accountability will be ensured.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Monday that diplomacy remains the preferred approach of the US in dealing with Iran. However, she added that the Trump administration would not rule out military options if required.
