Iran assures safe passage for Indian ships through Strait of Hormuz, calls India a 'friend'

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amid rising tensions in the Persian Gulf and concerns over maritime security, Iran's Ambassador to India Mohammad Fathali has indicated that India may have safe passage through the vital global waterway, the Strait of Hormuz.


Speaking to reporters, Fathali said that developments regarding ensuring India's safe access through this strategic sea route could emerge soon. When asked whether India would receive safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, he sounded positive, saying that India is a friendly country to Iran and that a clearer picture could emerge soon.


The Iranian ambassador's remarks

came at a time when the movement of ships passing through the Persian Gulf is being closely monitored due to the ongoing tension in the Persian Gulf region. This narrow sea corridor is considered an important channel connecting the Gulf region to global markets. Ambassador Fathali said that Iran and India have deep ties and both countries have many common interests in the region. He said that the relationship of cooperation and friendship between Tehran and New Delhi has been strong for a long time.


Emphasizing India-Iran relations,

Fathali stated that Iran views India as an important partner. He added that India has supported Iran in various fields during difficult times, and that mutual trust remains strong between the two countries. According to him, despite regional circumstances, the two countries' relations are based on cooperation and partnership.
