Tehran (The Uttam Hindu): Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that the Iranian people hold no hostility toward the people of the United States, while accusing the US administration of acting as a “proxy” for Israel in the ongoing conflict.

According to reports, Pezeshkian made these remarks in an open letter addressed to the American public, outlining Iran’s position on the war involving the US and Israel.

He said, “The Iranian people do not hold any enmity toward the people of America, Europe, or neighboring countries.” He emphasized that throughout history, despite facing foreign interference and pressure, Iranians have always distinguished between governments and their citizens.

Pezeshkian further stated that Iran has never pursued aggression, expansionism, colonialism, or domination in its modern history, even though it has faced invasions and external pressures. He claimed that portraying Iran as a threat is a narrative shaped by Israel to divert global attention from its actions against Palestinians.

Referring to the US military presence around Iran, he said that such deployments highlight the dangers of foreign military bases in the region. Responding to warnings by US President Donald Trump about potential strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure, Pezeshkian said that targeting such facilities would directly harm civilians and constitute a “war crime,” with consequences extending beyond Iran’s borders.

He also alleged that the United States has entered the conflict under Israel’s influence, claiming that Israel seeks to fight Iran using “the last American soldier and the last dollar of US taxpayers.” Questioning US priorities, he asked whether “America First” remains a genuine guiding principle.

Pezeshkian said the world currently stands at a crossroads, needing to choose between confrontation and dialogue.

The conflict escalated on February 28, when Israel and the United States carried out joint strikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities, reportedly resulting in the deaths of senior leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with military commanders and civilians. In response, Iran launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US assets in the Middle East.
