New York (The Uttam Hindu): President Donald Trump has taken a tough stance after the death of three people, including two American soldiers who were part of the operation against the Islamic State. The American soldiers lost their lives during a terrorist attack in Syria. After this, President Trump has warned that very severe retaliation will be taken. President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post that three soldiers were also injured in the attack on Saturday.

He wrote, "We mourn the loss of three American patriots in Syria, including two soldiers and a civilian interpreter. Likewise, we pray for the three injured soldiers, who have just been confirmed to be okay. This was an ISIS attack on the United States and Syria. It occurred in a very dangerous part of Syria, not fully under the control of their government. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is deeply angered and disturbed by this attack. He warned that severe retaliation will be met."

The attack on US personnel in this volatile region, plagued by terrorist organizations and civil war, poses a significant challenge to US cooperation with the government of Ahmad al-Sharaa, which came to power after the ouster of Bashar al-Assad in December last year. It also poses a test for Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa's government, as a government spokesman said the alleged attacker was a member of Damascus government forces. Trump also acknowledged that the region is not completely under Damascus's control.

The government spokesman also said the US had ignored threat warnings in Palmyra, where the attack took place, according to the Syrian state news agency SANA. He added that the attacker had been "neutralized."

These were the first deaths in Syria since al-Assad was ousted from power. The victims were members of the US Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), formally operating against the terrorist group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and ash-Sham (ISIS). Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell described the US mission as "supporting ongoing counter-ISIS and counter-terrorism operations." He said the attack occurred while the troops were negotiating with a key leader.

Media reports quoted Syrian government spokesman Nuruddin al-Baba as saying that the terrorist who opened fire on US troops was a member of Syrian government forces. However, according to a SANA report, he added that the attacker did not hold any leadership role in internal security and was not an escort for an internal security commander. However, the attacker was already under investigation for whether his ideology was "extremist." A verdict on this investigation was expected on Sunday.
