New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A Japan Airlines flight from Shanghai, China, to Tokyo, Japan, narrowly avoided a major disaster on Monday. During the flight, the Boeing 737 aircraft suddenly lost stability and plummeted 26,000 feet in just 10 minutes. The 191 passengers onboard were left terrified during these horrifying moments.

According to the South China Morning Post, the aircraft was cruising at 36,000 feet when it experienced a technical malfunction and began descending rapidly. At 10,500 feet, the pilot managed to regain control of the aircraft with remarkable presence of mind and made an emergency landing at Kansai Airport in Osaka.

Chaos erupted inside the cabin during the incident. Crew members instructed passengers to wear oxygen masks, but in panic, many passengers threw their masks off. Sharing their terrifying experience on social media, some passengers wrote, “Our bodies are here, but our minds are still stuck there. It felt like life was about to end.”

All Passengers Safe, Investigation Underway

Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident. All passengers were safely deboarded at the airport. Arrangements were made for them to stay overnight, and they were each compensated with 15,000 yen (about $104). An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.

Questions Raised Over Boeing 737

It’s worth noting that the Boeing 737 has previously been involved in two major accidents. Last year, a plane of this model crashed during landing in Muan, South Korea, with 179 passengers onboard. In 2022, another Boeing 737 carrying 132 passengers crashed in China.
