Khalistani-Linked Drug Syndicate Uncovered in Canada; Massive Cocaine Haul, Anti-India Plans Revealed

Update: 2025-06-12 04:18 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) :  A big drug racket linked to Khalistani supporters and narco-terrorist network has been exposed in Canada. Peel Regional Police has made the biggest drug seizure so far under 'Project Pelican' and recovered 479 kg of cocaine, whose estimated market value is said to be 47.9 million dollars. Police have arrested a total of nine accused, including seven people of Indian origin, in this operation. All were produced in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, where their bail hearing was held.

The investigation revealed that the network used commercial trucking routes from the US to Canada to smuggle narcotics and had ties to Mexican drug cartels and US-based distributors. Police also seized two illegal loaded semi-automatic handguns. Ontario Solicitor General Michael S. Kerzner praised Project Pelican, saying, "This operation is proof that when our police are provided with the necessary resources and equipment, they are able to ensure the safety of our communities."

Connections to anti-India activities

According to sources, the proceeds from the seized drugs were being used for anti-India activities. This included activities like protests, mobilising people and funding for weapons. Intelligence agencies say that under an ISI-backed scheme, Canada-based Khalistani groups were being financed to smuggle Mexican cocaine.
