New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Despite a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, the situation in the region remains far from normal. Iran has taken a firm stance against Israel’s military actions in Lebanon, calling them a violation of the agreement and warning that its “finger is still on the trigger.”

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council made it clear that the ceasefire does not signal the end of the war. It warned that any provocation would be met with full force.

Tightening Grip on Strait of Hormuz

Amid rising tensions, Iran has announced new restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, only a maximum of 15 ships per day will now be allowed to pass through this crucial maritime route. The strait is vital for global oil and gas supply, and such restrictions could significantly impact international trade. Additionally, Iran and Oman are reportedly discussing a proposal to impose transit fees on ships, which could further increase global shipping costs.

Dialogue Alongside Warning

Iran has agreed to the ceasefire but clarified that it is only a step toward dialogue, not an end to the conflict. Talks between Iran and the United States are expected to begin in Islamabad. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has indicated a softer stance, stating that the U.S. will refrain from further military action if Iran complies with the agreement and keeps the Strait of Hormuz open.

China’s Diplomatic Role

China is believed to have played a key diplomatic role in facilitating talks, reportedly working through countries like Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt to bring Iran to the negotiation table.

Situation Still Fragile

Despite the ceasefire, tensions remain high, with reports of missile alerts and sporadic attacks in some areas. Experts believe the stability of this temporary truce remains uncertain.
