Top Pakistan Army Commando Major Muiz, Man Behind Abhinandan Arrest Claim, Shot Dead in Militant Attack
Islamabad(The Uttam Hindu): Major Muiz, a senior officer of Pakistan Army’s Special Service Group (SSG), was killed in an ambush by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants near Sargoga in South Waziristan. Another soldier, Lance Naik Jibranullah, also died in the attack.
According to sources, Major Muiz was part of the elite 6 Commando Battalion and was on an operation based on intelligence inputs when the attack occurred. TTP militants were reportedly lying in wait and opened fire as the soldiers arrived. Major Muiz had previously made headlines in 2019 for claiming to capture Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan. He hailed from Chakwal, Pakistan, and is survived by his wife and two children.
The Pakistan military has labeled the killing a major blow. Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed condolences. According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal, over 1,200 Pakistani military personnel have died in militant attacks in 2024 and 2025 combined. TTP, BLA, and BTP continue to target security forces across volatile regions.
