Major shake-up in global rich list, Larry Page becomes the world’s second-richest person
New York (The Uttam Hindu): A massive rally in U.S. tech stocks on Monday triggered a sharp rise in the net worth of the world’s top billionaires. Google shares surged more than 6 percent to a record high, giving Larry Page the biggest boost and pushing him to the second spot on the global rich list.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, nine American tech billionaires in the top 10 added nearly 65 billion dollars to their combined wealth in a single day. The largest gain was seen by Elon Musk, whose wealth increased by 19.1 billion dollars after Tesla shares jumped 6 percent, bringing his total net worth to 441 billion dollars.
Larry Page’s fortune grew by 14.9 billion dollars, taking his total wealth to 272 billion dollars and moving him to second place. This pushed Larry Ellison down to third position, although Ellison also gained 3.2 billion dollars, raising his wealth to 257 billion dollars.
Jeff Bezos added 5.09 billion dollars as Amazon shares rose, lifting his net worth to 248 billion dollars. A surge in Meta shares increased Mark Zuckerberg’s wealth by 6.49 billion dollars, bringing him to 217 billion dollars. Nvidia’s rise helped Jensen Huang gain 3.13 billion dollars, taking his total wealth to 159 billion dollars.
Sergey Brin saw a 13.8 billion dollar jump, raising his net worth to 254 billion dollars. Steve Ballmer and Michael Dell also recorded notable gains. Michael Dell entered the global top 10 with a net worth of 154 billion dollars, pushing Warren Buffett out of the list. Monday’s strong market performance brought a major reshuffle among tech billionaires.
