Ontario(The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former U.S. President Donald Trump recently had a 35-minute phone call, which took place against the backdrop of ongoing tensions related to Operation Sindoor. This conversation, confirmed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, touched on important regional security issues, including the conflicts in Israel and Iran, as well as the situation in Ukraine.

During the call, Trump extended an invitation to Modi to stop by the U.S. on his way back from Canada, but the Prime Minister had to decline due to prior commitments. Instead, Modi invited Trump to India for the upcoming Quad meeting, and Trump happily accepted.

Modi was clear in rejecting any notion of U.S. mediation between India and Pakistan, stressing that all ceasefire discussions happen directly between the two nations' militaries. He reiterated India's stance against foreign mediation, highlighting that there is a strong political consensus on this issue.

Originally, the two leaders were supposed to meet at the G7 Summit, but that plan fell through when Trump returned to the U.S. earlier than expected. This phone call marked their first conversation since the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, after which Trump had offered his condolences.

Modi also pointed out that India now perceives terrorism not as a proxy war but as a direct conflict, and he confirmed that Operation Sindoor is still very much in effect.
