Washington (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump has made a shocking announcement that he is going to change the name of the Pentagon from 'Department of Defense' to its old name 'Department of War'. Trump argued that America needs to be not just defensive but also offensive and this name reflects this thinking.

"When we won World War I and World War II, it was called the War Department, and to me, that's exactly what it is," Trump told reporters during a joint press conference with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in the Oval Office. "Everybody likes that... When it was the War Department, we had an incredible history of victory, then we changed it to the Department of Defense," he added.

Trump made it clear that he will implement this decision soon. He said, this change can be announced in the next few weeks. It will not even require the approval of Congress and we are just going to do it.

During this time, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was also present with Trump. Pointing towards him, Trump said, "Pete, you started by saying 'Defense Department' and I didn't like it. Are we just defense? Why are we defense? So earlier it was called 'War Department' and it was a strong name."

Trump also dismissed critics who might see the change as merely symbolic, insisting, "It's not just symbolic. We don't just want security, we want aggression."

The 'Department of War' in America was established in 1789. It was known by this name till 1947, after which the then President Harry S. Truman changed its name to 'Department of Defense' under the National Security Act. This move of Trump is being considered a sign of a major ideological change in America's military policy.
