PM Modi Receives ‘Daruma’ Doll Said to Fulfil Wishes – Know Its Significance
Tokyo (The Uttam Hindu)- Prime Minister Modi met Rev. Seishi Hirose, the chief priest of Daruma-ji Temple on Friday during his Japan visit. During this, he presented a 'Daruma' doll to PM Modi.
The Daruma doll is a special cultural symbol and souvenir of Japan, based on Bodhidharma (Daruma Daishi), the founder of the Zen sect of Buddhism. This doll is considered a symbol of perseverance and good luck. It is used to set goals and achieve them. In the tradition of making it, when a goal is set, one eye of the doll is filled and when the goal is achieved, the other eye is also filled. It also represents the saying 'Fall seven times, get up eight', which is the virtue of never giving up. The round base of this doll helps it to stand back up even if it falls.
The 'Daruma' doll is based on Buddhist monk Bodhidharma from Kanchipuram, India. It is believed that Bodhidharma meditated continuously facing the wall for nine years, in which his hands and feet were shrunken. This is the reason why the shape of the Daruma doll is round and without hands, feet and eyes. Let us tell you that PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Japan.
