Protesters Unleash Violence: Former PM's Wife Burned Alive, Senior Leaders Targeted; Watch Video

Kathmandu (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned from his post on Tuesday amid days of violent protests and rebellion-like situation in Nepal. Protesters set the Parliament building on fire in the capital Kathmandu and so far 22 people, including the wife of a former prime minister, have died in clashes across the country. After the situation worsened, PM Oli was taken to an unknown safe place by an army helicopter.

Soon after PM Oli's resignation, news of President Ram Chandra Paudel's resignation also spread, which was later denied by the President's Office. It is reported that the President has not resigned, but he has invited the protesters for talks on the current crisis.

The situation in the capital Kathmandu has gone completely out of control and the security forces seem to be unable to control the mob. The angry mob also attacked the personal residences of Prime Minister Oli, President Paudel and Home Minister and vandalised and set them on fire. So far more than 400 people have been reported injured in the violent clashes across the country.


In a very tragic incident amid this violence, protesters set fire to the house of former Prime Minister Jhalnath Khanal. His wife Rajyalakshmi Chitrakar was present inside the house at the time of the attack and suffered severe burns. She was immediately rushed to Kirtipur Burn Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Civil war-like conditions prevail in many parts of the country including Kathmandu and there is an atmosphere of chaos everywhere.
