New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Pakistan carried out intense airstrikes early Sunday on suspected militant hideouts near the Afghanistan border. Acting on intelligence inputs, the operation targeted seven camps linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Daesh Khorasan Province. Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar confirmed the strikes and said that facilities associated with groups linked to the Islamic State were also hit.

Afghanistan alleges civilian casualties

Afghanistan’s interim government strongly condemned the airstrikes. Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid accused Pakistani forces of crossing the border and targeting civilian areas in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. He claimed that many civilians, including women and children, were killed in the strikes and alleged that Pakistan was trying to divert attention from its internal problems through such actions.

Operation linked to recent suicide attacks

Pakistani authorities described the operation as action against Fitna al-Khawarij and allied groups. Officials said the strikes were carried out in response to recent suicide attacks in Islamabad, Bajaur and Bannu during Ramadan. Pakistan has alleged that these attacks were planned by militant networks operating from Afghan territory, with groups linked to TTP and Daesh claiming responsibility.

Strong diplomatic stance

Following the operation, Pakistan reiterated its position that Afghan soil should not be used for activities against Pakistan. Officials stated that the country would take necessary steps to protect its citizens and counter militant threats. Pakistan also called on the international community to ensure that commitments under the Doha Agreement are implemented and that militant networks are dismantled.
