Islamabad (The Uttam Hindu): A controversy has erupted in Pakistan over an alleged statement by Army Chief Asim Munir, made at an Iftar gathering amid Iran-Israel tensions. His remarks reportedly sparked anger within the Shia community.

According to media reports, regional issues and Iran were being discussed during the Iftar. During this, the army chief reportedly told Shia clerics that if they liked Iran, they could go there. He also said that no one would be allowed to create instability in Pakistan based on their bias towards another country.

The statement sparked a sharp reaction from the Shia community. Prominent religious leader Syed Jawad Naqvi called it offensive and said such comments fuel communal tension. He stressed that questioning the patriotism of the Shia community is not only wrong but also divisive.

Shia organizations maintain that their allegiance is entirely to Pakistan and that it is unfair to associate them with any foreign country. They also reminded that the Shia community has played a significant role in the country's construction and development.

Analysts believe such statements could impact the sectarian balance within Pakistan amid ongoing regional tensions. The development has raised concerns about social harmony and internal stability in the country.
