United Kingdom (The Uttam Hindu): In the UK’s Oldbury town, a Sikh woman in her twenties was raped by two men who also hurled racist remarks at her, telling her to “go back to your country.” The incident took place near Tame Road around 8:30 am last Tuesday leaving the local Sikh community shocked and angry. Police said they are treating it as a racially aggravated crime and have launched CCTV and forensic investigations to trace the attackers.

According to the victim, the attackers made repeated racist comments during the assault. Local leaders and the Sikh community have condemned the crime calling it a targeted hate attack. Police have assured that patrols in the area will be increased for community safety. The suspects have been described as two white men—one with a shaven head wearing a dark sweatshirt and the other in a grey top.

British MPs have strongly condemned the crime. MP Preet Kaur Gill said that racism and misogyny have no place in Britain and every community has the right to feel safe and respected. MP Jas Athwal also called it a “vile, racist, misogynist attack,” linking it to rising racial tensions in the country. The incident comes weeks after two elderly Sikh men were assaulted by teenagers in Wolverhampton raising concern about increasing attacks on the community.
