London (The Uttam Hindu): London 's Brent Council says it spends more than £30,000 annually cleaning up paan stains from shops, pavements, and buildings. The council says the problem has become so widespread that it is affecting both the aesthetics and cleanliness of public spaces.

A video shared on Brent Council's Instagram shows workers removing paan stains from several locations. The council said that more enforcement officers have been deployed in the area to control the problem. Special cleaning campaigns are also being run to remove paan stains.

The video's detailed caption explains that people are being made aware of the costs of spitting paan and the stricter regulations now in place. It notes that cleaning up paan stains costs over £30,000, so stricter measures will now be taken.

The council has announced that anyone caught spitting paan will now face an immediate fine of £100. It has also launched a support program to help people quit paan and smoking.

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Public Rights and Enforcement, said the council is taking a very strict stance against this behavior. According to her, zero tolerance will continue against those who litter the streets, whether they spit paan or damage public property. "Don't mess with Brent—we'll take action and issue fines," she said.
