New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump brokered a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia in South Korea on October 26, 2025, but it has been broken again. Thailand has launched a massive airstrike on Cambodia. Following the airstrike, both countries are accusing each other of initiating the attack.

Thailand launched airstrikes against Cambodia on Monday, sparking a new round of heated exchanges between the Southeast Asian neighbours, with both sides blaming each other.

Thai military spokesman Major General Winthai Suwary said the airstrikes targeted Cambodian military infrastructure. He also alleged that Cambodia had launched an attack on Thailand first, killing its soldiers.

"The target was Cambodian weapons support positions in the Chong N Ma area, as those targets used artillery and mortar launchers to attack the Thai side of the Anupong base. One soldier was killed as a result. Seven people were injured in the attack," Suwari said.

The Thai army said in a statement that Cambodia began targeting the Thai border at around 3 a.m. local time on Monday. The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) said Cambodia had amassed heavy weapons, relocated combat units, and deployed fire-support elements; these are actions that could escalate military operations and pose a threat to Thailand's border area.

On the other hand, Cambodia's Defense Minister rejected the RTAF's allegations, calling them misinformation and said, "In keeping with the spirit of respecting all previous agreements and resolving disputes peacefully in accordance with international law, Cambodia did not retaliate during both attacks and is monitoring the situation with utmost vigilance and caution."

In a separate statement, the Cambodian military accused the Thai army of "attacking Cambodian forces" at around 5:04 a.m. local time, saying, "It is noteworthy that this attack occurred after the Thai army had been carrying out a series of provocative actions for several days." The Thai military said about 70 percent of Thai civilians had been evacuated from border towns.
