Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again revived his familiar claim — that his administration played a crucial role in ending ongoing conflicts across seven nations, including the long-standing tensions between India and Pakistan.

During an interaction about his tariff policies, Trump said, “If I hadn’t imposed tariffs, at least four out of seven wars would still be going on.” He asserted that the tariffs he introduced were a decisive factor in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan earlier this year, when the two nuclear-armed neighbors faced heightened military tensions.

Trump claimed these tariffs not only helped stabilize global conflicts but also turned the United States into a “peacemaker nation,” while earning it “hundreds of billions of dollars” in revenue.

However, India has firmly denied any possibility of third-party mediation in its disputes with Pakistan, reiterating that all issues must be resolved bilaterally.

This isn’t the first time Trump has made such statements. In May 2025, he posted on social media that, following “overnight negotiations in Washington”, both India and Pakistan had agreed to a “complete and immediate ceasefire.” Since then, Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for helping defuse tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad though India has never officially acknowledged such mediation.
