New York (The Uttam Hindu): Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for preventing a war between India and Pakistan. Despite being overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump said he remains unfazed, asserting that he has helped stop seven global conflicts including the one between India and Pakistan. He added that his actions were never motivated by any award, but by the desire to save lives.

While speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday night before departing for Gaza peace talks in Egypt, Trump said,

“I settled several wars just by imposing tariffs. For example, when conflict began between India and Pakistan, I told them — if you want to fight and you both have nuclear weapons, I’ll impose 100, 150, or even 200 percent tariffs on both of you. I said this, and within 24 hours the matter was resolved. If I didn’t have the tariff weapon, that conflict might have never ended.

Trump claimed that his ability to use tariffs played an important role in establishing peace worldwide.

“I made seven peace deals. At least five of them were possible through trade strategy. If countries choose war, we choose not to trade with them we impose tariffs,” he said.

He further clarified that winning a Nobel Prize was never his intention.

“Some people say that even in 2025 we’ve done many great things, but I never did all this for any prize. I did it to save people’s lives,” Trump added.

However, India has repeatedly stated that the U.S. had no role in the ceasefire following Operation Sindoor or the subsequent de-escalation between India and Pakistan.

Regarding the ongoing Gaza peace talks, Trump said,

“This will be a very special moment. Everyone Jews, Muslims, and Arab nations is hopeful. This moment will be recorded in history.”
