Trump Stuns World: Pushes for Historic Russia-Ukraine-Peace Summit After Secret Call with Putin
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump on Monday hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and top European leaders at the White House to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war. However, no agreement was reached on a ceasefire. Trump later revealed that he had personally called Russian President Vladimir Putin, and preparations are now underway for a direct meeting between Putin and Zelensky – followed by a historic trilateral summit involving the US, Russia, and Ukraine.
After the high-profile meeting, Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Everyone is very happy with the prospect of peace. We are preparing for a meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky at a fixed location. Soon after, we will hold a trilateral summit – the two Presidents and myself.”
Sources told CNN that Trump abruptly paused his meeting with Zelensky and European leaders to call Putin directly – a move that stunned diplomats. European leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni, NATO Chief Mark Rutte, and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, were present in the White House meeting.
Trump stressed that the US, along with European allies, is working on security guarantees for Ukraine, ensuring its long-term safety against Russian aggression. “This is not about two years of peace and then chaos again – this is about permanent peace,” Trump declared. The announcement comes just days after Trump and Putin’s surprise meeting in Alaska, raising global speculation that a potential endgame for the war could finally be in sight.
