Trump and Putin Announce Breakthrough Talks in Alaska, Focus on Ukraine Peace
Alaska(The Uttam Hindu): U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a three-hour summit on Friday, marking a significant diplomatic development. Trump expressed optimism, stating that the agreement reached could pave the way toward peace in Ukraine. “I believe our meeting was highly productive, and we agreed on several critical issues,” he said.
The outcome is also crucial for India, as the U.S. recently imposed a 25% penalty on India for purchasing Russian oil. However, neither leader disclosed the full details of the agreement or confirmed a possible ceasefire.
Trump hinted at undisclosed deals, saying, “Some major agreements are within reach. We haven’t finalized them yet, but there’s a strong possibility we will.” He further noted he would inform NATO allies and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the summit discussions, clarifying that any final peace deal depends on Ukraine’s leadership.
Putin, addressing the press, stressed the need to shift from confrontation to dialogue. “Despite how unusual it may sound, Russia and Ukraine share deep roots. What is happening is a tragedy and a painful wound for us, and Russia genuinely seeks to end this conflict,” he said.
The summit moved directly to its second phase, involving key aides from both nations, bypassing the planned three-stage agenda. Trump welcomed Putin with a red-carpet ceremony, and the two leaders continued their discussions in a cordial manner.
