Trump signals Cuba as next target after Iran and Venezuela, hints at action
Donald Trump signals Cuba could be the next US target after Iran and Venezuela, hinting at possible military or strategic action amid rising tensions.
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Donald Trump has indicated a new front in global politics, suggesting that after Iran and Venezuela, “Cuba could be next.” Speaking at an event in Miami, Trump said that sometimes a strong military must be used, though he did not specify the exact nature of any potential action.
Meanwhile, Cuba is already facing a deep economic and energy crisis, especially after political changes in Venezuela affected its oil supply. Following the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Cuba has been dealing with worsening shortages of fuel and essential goods.
Referring to US military strength, Trump stated that he had built a powerful army and that although it may not always be needed, there are times when its use becomes necessary. He added, “By the way, Cuba is next,” raising concerns within the Cuban government.
Trump also described the situation as a possible “friendly takeover,” but hinted that outcomes could vary depending on circumstances. Speaking to reporters at the White House, he said the United States has the capability to do “anything” regarding the island and expressed interest in either “liberating” or “taking control” of Cuba.
Despite the strong rhetoric, diplomatic channels remain open. According to reports, discussions are ongoing between US officials and Cuban leadership. The US is reportedly aiming to remove Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel from power, while Cuba has also acknowledged talks as it seeks to avoid direct military confrontation.
