Trump warns Delcy Rodríguez, invokes Maduro in threat to Venezuela
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Former US President Donald Trump is once again taking an aggressive stance regarding Venezuela. Amid recent developments, Trump has openly warned Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodriguez that if she doesn't act in accordance with US expectations, she could face a greater price than President Nicolas Maduro.
“If you don't listen, you'll be like Maduro…” Trump threatens Venezuela's new president, Delcy Rodriguez: Delcy Rodriguez has been the Vice President of Venezuela since 2018 and has been appointed the interim President amid the current crisis. After the alleged military intervention by America, it is being claimed that President Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores are in a New York jail. In this background, Trump has given a new ultimatum to Venezuela. In an interview given to 'The Atlantic Magazine', Trump said, “If she does not make the right decision, the consequences will be very serious. This price may be more than Maduro.”
Interestingly, it was Trump who praised Delcy Rodriguez during the transition and agreed to appoint her as interim president. However, after assuming office, Delcy made it clear that Maduro is the rightful president of Venezuela and that the country will not accept any outside interference in its oil and other natural resources.
Trump warned that if Venezuela did not cooperate with the United States, military action could be rescinded. He said,
"We are talking to those who have recently been sworn in. We are fully prepared for a second attack, although we hope it will not be necessary. Elections will be held in Venezuela when the time is right."
Trump also made it clear that the US has its sights set on Venezuela's oil and other resources. He said that the situation will improve after a change of power, as the current situation could not get any worse.
In addition to Venezuela, Trump also made sharp statements about several other countries. He said, "We want Greenland. Cuba is ready to yield, so no action will be needed there. Colombia is in the hands of a weak leadership that won't last long. We may have to take tough action with Mexico as well."
