Trump’s January 2026 plan fuels fears beyond Venezuela; Khamenei hints at Russia exit
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Following the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and the successful military operation, US President Donald Trump's stance has become even more aggressive. Now, the sensational revelation of Trump's "January 2026 Plan" has caused a sea change in global geopolitics. According to this plan, Greenland could be America's next major target. Trump has adopted a very tough stance on Greenland, setting a deadline of just 20 days. He has openly declared that he wants Greenland at any cost. However, Greenland has objected to Trump's unilateral approach, stating that such statements could escalate tensions between the two countries. In addition to Greenland, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, and Iran are also on America's hit list, to whom Trump has issued a stern warning.
The clouds of crisis over Iran appear to be growing the darkest. According to a report in The Times, if the US attacks Iran now, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei could flee to Moscow (Russia) for safety. It's worth noting that in June 2025, the US, along with Israel, attacked Iran. Now, the US has once again issued a warning to Tehran, raising fears of war.
On the other hand, the Venezuela chapter isn't completely closed. The US is preparing for a "Round 2" of action there. Trump stated clearly in an interview that if the Venezuelan government doesn't do as he dictates, the consequences will be dire. Following Maduro's arrest, the Vice President is taking over, but the new government has refused to bow to the US and has proposed resolving the issue through negotiations. Trump may soon launch a second operation to take complete control of Venezuela.
Trump also openly threatened Cuba. Cuban troops were responsible for Maduro's security, and 32 Cuban soldiers were killed in the US operation. Trump stated that people in Cuba are also unhappy with their government. The Cuban government led by Miguel Diaz-Canel is considered a staunch opponent of the US and is now directly on Trump's radar.
