Washington (The Uttam Hindu): The months-long tension between Venezuela and the US has ended with a major US military operation. In a daring operation, the US Army has arrested Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife from the capital Caracas and brought them to the US. Although Maduro had deployed heavy military in the country in view of the US threat, the US troops were able to enter the capital easily. After this high-profile arrest, another shocking revelation has come to light that 32 Cuban officers deployed to help Venezuela were also killed during this operation.

The Cuban government officially confirmed on Sunday that 32 of its officers were killed during US military action in Venezuela. According to a statement released on Cuban state TV, Cuban military and police officers were deployed there on a special mission at the request of the Venezuelan government. It is worth noting that Cuba and Venezuela have long been close allies, and Cuba has frequently sent troops to assist in security operations. Following this incident, the Cuban government declared two days of state mourning in honor of the slain officers. The government said in its statement that its countrymen, while fulfilling their responsibilities towards security and defense, faced the US aggressors with dignity and bravery and were martyred during the fierce bombing and resistance.

On the other hand, US President Donald Trump has praised his army, calling this operation extremely dangerous. Trump also confirmed that a large number of Cubans were killed in the operation, while the American side suffered no casualties. Trump said on Monday that it was a very risky mission, in which some of his soldiers were injured and a helicopter was badly damaged, but all the soldiers are safe and they were successful in bringing back everything they had. Trump clearly said that there were many deaths on the other side, but no American soldier was killed.
