15 feared dead as bus catches fire on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer highway

Jodhpur (The Uttam Hindu): A private bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur erupted in flames on Tuesday afternoon. In this horrific accident, approximately 15 passengers, including three children and four women, were burned alive. Amid the screams and cries of relief as the fire broke out, passengers broke the windows to save themselves. Those with severe burns have been referred to Jodhpur.
According to reports, the horrific accident occurred around 3:30 pm near Thaiyat village on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur highway. The bus, carrying 57 passengers, departed from Jaisalmer for Jodhpur at 3 pm. Just 20 kilometers into the journey, smoke suddenly began to rise from the rear of the bus, and before anyone could react, the entire bus was engulfed in flames.
As soon as the fire broke out, chaos erupted inside the bus. Passengers broke the windows and jumped out to save their lives. In the process, many passengers' clothes and belongings were burned. Upon receiving the news, nearby villagers and passersby rushed to help and informed the police and fire department.
Fire engines arrived at the scene and managed to control the fire after considerable effort, but by then the bus was completely engulfed. According to police, the cause of the fire is under investigation, but initially, a short circuit in the engine or wiring is suspected. Omaram Bhil (30), who suffered serious burns, has been referred to Jodhpur, while Imamat (30) and her son, Yunus, are also being treated at a Jodhpur hospital.
