Arhatiya Gunned Down in Broad Daylight in Punjab; Ransom Angle Probed

Tarn Taran (The Uttam Hindu): In Tarn Taran district of Punjab, a commission agent named Ram Gopal was shot dead by bike-riding assailants. Ram Gopal, a resident of Harike village and a neighbor of terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa Harike was attacked outside his house. The police have taken custody of the body and sent it for postmortem at the civil hospital while senior officers are conducting a detailed investigation.
According to reports, the incident occurred when two bike-borne assailants arrived and opened fire without hesitation. Four shots were fired with one bullet hitting Ram Gopal in the shoulder and others striking different parts of his body. He was rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Super Specialty Hospital in Tarn Taran, where doctors declared him dead.
The police, led by SP Ajayraj Singh, DSP Rajinder Singh Minhas, DSP Patti Gurkripal Singh and Harike Pattan in-charge Ranjit Singh reached the scene immediately after the incident. A blockade was set up in the area but the accused managed to escape. The police are currently investigating the case exploring angles of personal enmity and ransom as possible motives.
