Kanpur (The Uttam Hindu): A 37-year-old assistant engineer from the Panki power plant died after undergoing a botched hair transplant surgery at a city-based clinic, according to police reports.

The incident, which occurred in March, came to light following a formal complaint filed by the deceased's wife. The complaint led to the registration of an FIR against the medical practitioner on Saturday at the Rawatpur police station.

Vineet Kumar Dubey, an assistant engineer hailing from Gorakhpur, had gone to a clinic in Kalyanpur for a hair transplant procedure on March 13. The next day, his wife, Jaya Tripathi, received an alarming phone call informing her that Vineet was experiencing severe facial swelling and was being rushed to the hospital. However, the call abruptly ended, and all subsequent attempts to reach Vineet or the doctor were unsuccessful.

Concerned, Jaya's uncle went to the hospital to check on Vineet's condition, only to find that his condition had worsened. Vineet was then transferred to Regency Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on March 15.

Following the tragic incident, Jaya Tripathi filed a complaint alleging medical negligence, which led to the FIR against the doctor. The complaint accuses the doctor of causing death due to negligent medical care.

The police have registered a case under Section 106(1) of the BNS Act, which deals with negligence leading to death. The Kalyanpur ACP, Abhishek Kumar Pandey, confirmed that statements from individuals who introduced the engineer to the doctor had been recorded. However, the accused doctor has yet to appear before authorities despite being summoned.

Further investigations are ongoing, and police have indicated that further actions will be determined as the inquiry progresses.
