New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on Wednesday has ended. According to sources, there will be a press briefing at 3 pm, in which major decisions taken in the CCS meeting are likely to be announced. This important meeting was called to discuss the security situation and future action after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. The meeting of the apex committee that takes decisions on national security was called for the second time at the Prime Minister's residence.

The CCS meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This meeting was followed by meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). The government will meet the media at 3 pm. This is the first meeting of the Union Cabinet after the terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed. There was no Cabinet meeting last week and only the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met on April 23, in which the terror attack was condemned.

In the first CCS meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi, India took several steps against Pakistan. These include suspending the Indus Water Treaty, closing the Attari border, cancelling visas of Pakistani citizens, banning many of their YouTube channels and X handles. Apart from this, Pakistani citizens were also directed to return to their country.

The CCS may also consider the military options available to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. The security situation was reviewed in the CCS meeting on April 23 and all Indian forces were directed to maintain the highest alert. India has resolved that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack will be brought to justice.
