CM Mann Visits Nangal Dam, Questions BBMB Functioning Without Punjab’s Consent

Nangal (The Uttam Hindu) : Punjab-Haryana Dispute LIVE: After the order to release 8500 cusecs of additional water from Bhakra Dam to Haryana, a fierce controversy is being witnessed. Seeing the dispute growing, BBMB has locked the dam. On the other hand, the Punjab government took a big step today by adopting a tough stand regarding the protection of the state's water rights. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also reached Bhakra Dam.

Punjab is facing water crisis: CM Mann

During this, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that this is a very serious matter. Punjab is already facing water crisis. The dams of Punjab are also running below their level. Bhakra was 1566 feet. The bar on this was 1555 feet, Pong was 1325 MAFA, this time it is 1293. Ranjit Sagar was 505 meters, this time it is 502 meters.The Chief Minister said that we do not have even a single drop of water. He keeps saying whatever he wants. Do not expect anything from us. He said that no one will be able to take away water. I have an account of every drop of water. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that how can BBMB be completed without Punjab. People of Haryana do not even drink water from their daughter's house and they are demanding canals.

Cabinet minister Harjot Bains sat on strike

Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains himself reached Nangal Dam and sat on a dharna with the protesting workers there. He clarified that Chief Minister Bhagwat Singh Mann's decision is completely in the interest of Punjab and under no circumstances does the question of sending additional water to Haryana arise.Punjab is already facing severe water shortage: Harjot Bains Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains said Punjab is already facing acute water shortage, so how can we give our share to others? Punjab should get its rights. He said that in view of the seriousness of the entire matter, the activities of BBMB officials are being strictly monitored.

Instructions have been issued to the departments to ensure compliance with the Chief Minister's orders. Harjot Singh Bains also informed that many villages in Nangal area are still facing the problem of drinking water.
