Colonel Sofia Comment Row: Minister Vijay Shah Moves Supreme Court Against HC Verdict, Seeks Relief

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Tribal Affairs Minister Vijay Shah in the Madhya Pradesh government has challenged the FIR lodged against Colonel Sofia Qureshi for her controversial statement in the Supreme Court. An FIR was lodged against him at Manpur police station in Mhow late on Wednesday night, against which he has now filed a petition in the apex court demanding its cancellation.

Colonel Sofia comment case: Minister Vijay Shah reached SC against the High Court's decision, made this demand: In the petition, Vijay Shah has expressed regret over his statement and has also apologized. This matter gained momentum when the court, taking suo motu cognizance, directed to register an FIR against the minister. A hearing on this matter is also to be held in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The video link in which Vijay Shah allegedly made controversial remarks against Colonel Sofia Qureshi will also be presented before the court.

After the controversy, the politics of the state has heated up. Opposition parties including Congress have strongly criticized Vijay Shah's statement and demanded his dismissal from the cabinet. Protests have also been held against him in Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur and other cities. This matter is creating a stir in the state not only legally but also politically. After the next hearing in the Supreme Court, it will be decided whether the FIR will proceed further or will be cancelled.
