Covid Strikes Back: Mumbai Reports 53 Cases, 2 Deaths

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Corona infection has once again gained momentum in Mumbai. A total of 53 corona positive patients have been confirmed so far in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area, which has increased the concern of the health department. At the same time, the death of two patients has also been recorded due to infection. However, both the patients were already suffering from serious diseases - one had mouth cancer and the other was suffering from nephrotic syndrome. Both the patients were undergoing treatment at KEM Hospital in Mumbai.

53 patients tested positive in Mumbai, 2 died; Department on alert : Seeing the increasing number of Covid patients, BMC has prepared special beds and separate rooms in its hospitals. 20 MICU beds, 20 beds for children and pregnant women and 60 general beds have been arranged at Seven Hills Hospital. Kasturba Hospital currently has 2 ICU beds and a 10-bed ward. The administration has assured that this capacity can be increased further if needed.The number of Covid cases was extremely low from January 2025 to April 2025, but a rise has been observed since the first week of May. The BMC has appealed to citizens not to panic but to remain alert and seek immediate medical help if symptoms appear.

According to the health department, common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, dry or phlegmy cough, sore throat, fatigue and body ache, headache, sometimes runny nose, cold, loss of smell or taste. If a person has problems like difficulty in breathing, it may be a sign of a serious condition. In such a situation, it is necessary to take the patient to the hospital immediately. BMC has said that all facilities for treatment, consultation and investigation are available in municipal hospitals. Also, citizens have been appealed to use masks in crowded places, take care of hand hygiene, and not ignore health symptoms.
